Piaf/Brel Live   Memory in French   Dixieland   Unreleased material

I did this Piaf / Brel concert LIVE in Paris years ago with my dear and brilliant friend Patrick Laviosa on a wretched keyboard that wasn’t worthy of him… the sound may not be great but the spirit of the evening was spectacular.

Everyone asks me how they can get a copy of the original French production of “CATS” so I’m telling you here that it’s on Amazon. But that recording doesn’t have this version of “Memory” so here it is. I have to say I loved doing this role (although the cat make-up thing got old fast).

In Cleveland, just before I went on the road with A Chorus Line, I had a Dixieland band that was made up of truly great players led by Mike Sands on piano. His charts have helped me out for years! Irwin Michaels is on clarinet, Emmet Wiley on trombone, and Mike Jacobs on drums. We recorded this VERY casually live at a place called “Peabody’s”. Once again, the sound may not be stellar, but man, we had FUN.

These are tracks from a CD I recorded in Paris that never got out there (or mixed as you may be able to tell). The studio and the producer couldn’t agree on finances, and I didn’t have 50 or 60 grand to buy the tracks and finish it. But I really had fun writing them and I worked with some pretty amazing people … here’s a taste of what might have been:
